Modern technology, particularly sonograms, revealed the intricacies of the body and became central to Carabali’s practice. Her personal experience with a pregnancy sonogram—and later, an abortion—deeply shaped this work. Painting these forms, layering colour and emotion, has helped her process what she once kept secret. The sonograms became vessels of both pain and healing. Unlike Carabali’s earlier, figurative Elmo works, this new direction embraces abstraction, yet still tells a story. Through dark and light, tension and tenderness, she explores the emergence of self. Carabali’s now blending elements of past and present, building a visual language that feels truly honest.
